Main Card Predictions

Lightweight Bout- Bobby Green def. Nasrat Haqparast via unanimous decision

Bobby Green is going through a renaissance period by winning four of his last six fights. Green went through a lull when he lost to Thiago Moises and Rafael Fiziev in consecutive fights, but he was competitive in those fights. He excelled in his most recent fight against Al Iaquinta at UFC 268. His striking and constant pressure will cause problems for Nasrat Haqparast. Drew Dober was the only fighter to stop Haqparast via strikes.

Bantamweight Bout- Kyler Phillips def. Marcelo Rojo via split decision

Kyler Phillips is a skilled striker and he showed that in his last fight against Raulian Paiva. Some people thought Phillips should have won that fight but he lost via majority decision. Rojo is coming off a TKO loss to Charles Jourdain in March 2021. Rojo tends to initiate pressure to go for a stoppage of his own, which will allow Phillips to outstrike from the outside for three rounds.

Middleweight Bout- No. 4 Derek Brunson def. No. 3 Jared Cannonier via unanimous decision

Derek Brunson’s wrestling will dictate the outcome of this fight. If Brunson is able to land clean takedowns on Jared Cannonier, he will win on the scorecards. The longer the fight stays on the fight, the more of an advantage Cannonier has. Cannonier has extreme knockout power and Brunson will need to change levels and keep Cannonier glued to the canvas for 15 minutes. There are several variables in this fight, but Brunson’s wrestling has improved significantly over his last three fights against Edmen Shahbazyan, Kevin Holland, and Darren Till. The winner will likely receive the next title shot in the middleweight division.

Heavyweight Bout- No. 3 Derrick Lewis def. No. 11 Tai Tuivasa via second-round TKO/KO

It goes without saying that anything can happen in the heavyweight division, but Derrick Lewis has expectations when he fights. Either he is going to knock his opponent out or he is going to be out-wrestled for the entirety of the fight. Tai Tuivasa is not known to be a great grappler, so he will look to stop Lewis in a similar way that he did against Augusto Sakai. Lewis will land his nuclear overhand as he did against Chris Daukaus on Dec. 18. Tuivasa will try to knock out Lewis, and he will pay the price for it.

Middleweight Title Bout- (C) Israel Adesanya def. No. 1 Robert Whittaker via unanimous decision

This main event will serve as a rematch of the main event at UFC 243. In that bout, Adesanya won the undisputed middleweight title with a second-round KO. Since then, Adesanya has remained unbeaten in the middleweight division and even jumped up to the 205-pound division to challenge Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight title. Adesanya is becoming a complete martial artist through every fight and he will be able to thwart any striking advances from Whittaker. It will be difficult for Adesanya to repeat a TKO against Whittaker again, but he will have control of the fight for five rounds.
