Dyson Daniels: Team Ignite 18-year-old Guard
Strengths:
- Fits into the “jumbo playmaking point guard” archetype, 6’6″ size with a strong upper and lower body, one of the youngest prospects in the class, international experience
- His best offensive trait is his playmaking, excellent court vision, mature feel for the game as an 18-year-old, plays with great pace, makes passes you can’t teach
- Great P&R passer, quick decision-maker when the big hedges/traps, accurate pocket and skip passer with live dribble, will be even better with a more spaced out floor
- Signature shot as a scorer is his trusty mid-range floater, he can get to it in the P&R and in isolations, loves to do a spin move into the floater, great touch on the shot
- One of the top guard defensive prospects, aggressive and disruptive on the ball, good screen navigator for size, great anticipation and hands notches him a lot of steals
- Uses 6’9″ wingspan to his advantage, active lateral mover who cuts off driving lanes and contests every shot well, fluid hips when guarding smaller players on the ball
Weaknesses:
- Not a high-level athlete, has functional athletic tools but not much else, lacks a lot of burst in the half-court, not a particularly quick-twitch athlete or a standout leaper
- Basic ball handling package, not tight and mostly functional which doesn’t project the best at the next level, one reason why he won’t be a true lead guard in the future
- Doesn’t have many good shooting indicators, hitting threes at a low percentage, middle of the road FT numbers, no pull-up flashes instead strictly a C&S diet
- Scoring talent doesn’t match his talent as a playmaker, not a good space creator, can’t drive and finish at the rim consistently, athletic and shooting concerns exacerbate this
- Can get lost off the ball on the defensive end, a few times where he lost his man to a cut along the baseline, stamina on defense has worn out a couple of times
