Alondes Williams: Wake Forest Senior Guard

Strengths:

  • Great size for a point guard at 6’5″, possesses standout athleticism, explosive leaper with a full head of steam in transition, great burst and change of speed in half-court
  • Improved his game a ton, went from 6.7 ppg to over 20, 1.5 apg to over five, shooting 48% from the field to over 54%, 16% from three to over 33%, 2.8 to 6.8 rpg
  • One of the best playmakers in the class, great vision and feel, quick decision-maker, makes cross-court skip passes look effortless, nuanced passer in the P&R game
  • Terrific ball-handler, so crafty and creative, great at changing directions and plays with pace, tight handle and burst leads him to break down his man with just a crossover
  • Great finisher at the rim, shooting over 67% at the rim, most of his looks there are self-created, overall a solid slasher because of that quick first step, has good footwork
  • Flashes of pull-up shooting from three and in the mid-range/long two areas, can hit shots against a drop coverage, nice mid-range scoring game in the pick and roll

Weaknesses:

  • Will be 23 years of age on draft night, one of the older players in the class, could lower his stock depending on if teams prioritize high floor players or those with upside
  • Has had a very sudden come up, only half a season of NBA draft worthy play, wasn’t on anyone’s radar before the breakout, that could also deter NBA teams/scouts
  • Not a good three-point shooter, 33% on low volume, need more than just shooting flashes at 22, old point guard who can’t shoot isn’t the most appealing archetype
  • Passing could be more style than substance, attempts risky passes with a lot of confidence, some windows that he passes into won’t be as open in the NBA
  • Mediocre defender, can get too aggressive at times and jump out of position too much, fine on-ball instincts but doesn’t match that with a strong motor, reaches in too much
