On Saturday, it was reported that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady will be retiring from the NFL, according to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington and Adam Schefter. Brady’s career will be remembered as the greatest in sporting history for his longevity and greatness.

At 44-years-old, Brady led the Buccaneers to their second consecutive playoff appearance for the first time in franchise history since 2000 and 2001. The Buccaneers were eliminated at home by the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round on Sunday, Jan. 23. He was on a quest to lead the Buccaneers back to the Super Bowl for the second straight season, but he ultimately fell short of that goal.

In 2021, Brady led the NFL in passing yards with 5,316 and passing touchdowns with 43. To imagine anyone being able to dominate the league at 44-years-old is unconscionable. Brady defied all human capabilities by being able to play 22 years in the NFL at the highest level. Aside from his rookie season in 2000, Brady was at the top of his profession from 2001 to 2021.

The NFL will never see someone in their mid-40s play at such an elite level as Brady played in. He had a Hall of Fame career from just 40-years-old until his retirement. In February, the NFL will announce the winner of the 2021 NFL MVP. Although Brady will likely lose out on the award to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, he will be a strong contender to win the award.

When it is all said and done, Brady’s accolades will be able to stand alone. He was named to 15 Pro Bowls, as well as three First-Team All-Pro selections. On top of that, he was a three-time NFL MVP award winner with the New England Patriots. Brady captured seven Super Bowls along with five Super Bowl MVPs. He appeared in 10 Super Bowls and 14 AFC and NFC Conference Championship Games with the Patriots and Buccaneers.

He helped the Buccaneers win their first Super Bowl in 18 years in 2020-21. His ability to be able to dominate the NFL for as long as he did while with the Patriots and then turn the Buccaneers into an immediate winner is remarkable.

When you think of the greatest athletes in history names like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Muhammad Ali, and Wayne Gretzky are mentioned, but Brady is the greatest of all of those names. Brady might not be as physically talented as those other names, but his mind was better than all of them. No other athlete has been able to take care of their body and play at the highest of levels well into their 40s. Brady is the greatest athlete in history.
