Dallas Mavericks vs. Orlando Magic Preview 1/30/2022

Kim Klement/USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Mavericks will play their second game in two straight days against the Orlando Magic on Sunday at the Amway Center. The Mavericks enter this game with a 29-21 record and a fifth-seed in the Western Conference. The Mavericks upended the Indiana Pacers, 132-105, on Saturday night in Dallas.

The Magic have won two of their last three games since Jan. 23. They won on Friday night against the Detroit Pistons, 119-103. Friday’s game was a contest that featured the two-worst teams in the Eastern Conference. The Magic are at the bottom of the conference with a 10-40 overall record. The Magic and Mavericks will be playing for the first time since Jan. 15 when the Mavericks beat the Magic, 108-92, in Dallas. Kristaps Porzingis exited Saturday’s game with right knee soreness.

How The Dallas Mavericks Can Win:

Dallas is at their best when Jalen Brunson is running the offense and Luka Doncic is able to make plays. In the 20-point win against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, Porzingis scored 22 points, while Jalen Brunson registered 20 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds. If Doncic is able to move the ball out of the perimeter, they will make it difficult for a young Magic team. With Porzingis likely out for the game, the Mavs will need Brunson and Doncic to fill the gap.

How The Orlando Magic Can Win:

Point guard Cole Anthony averages 17.9 points per game and he has emerged as the leader of this young team. Although the Magic are struggling, they have a bright future ahead of them. Not that long ago, the Mavericks were in a similar spot when Doncic was a rookie in the 2018-2019 season. The Magic will need Anthony and rookie guard Jalen Suggs to have an exceptional performance in order to beat the fifth-best team in the Western Conference.

The Spread Via FanDuel:

Dallas Mavericks -5.5 (-108), (-240) Money Line

Orlando Magic +5.5 (-112), (+198) Money Line
