The Chiefs Sweep Season Series Against Las Vegas in 48-9 Rout

By

The Kansas City Chiefs erupted to a score of 48 to 9 in a win over the Las Vegas Raiders this afternoon in Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium. The Kansas City Chiefs erupted for 48 points, scoring 35 in the first half, and getting contributions from both the offense and the defense.

The scoring started when Mike Hughes recovered a fumble and took it 22 yards to the house to give the Chiefs a 7-0 lead. Still in the first quarter, Patrick Mahomes found Darrel Williams for a 23-yard touchdown pass to put the Chiefs up 14-0.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire began the scored quarter with a five-yard rushing touchdown to extend the Chief lead to 21-0. It continued to be all Chiefs in the first half when Josh Gordon caught his first touchdown pass as a Chief to make the score 28-0. To finish the first half scoring for the Chiefs, Edwards-Helaire rushed for his second touchdown of the second quarter to put the Chiefs up 35-0. The Raiders, however, would manage a Daniel Carlson field goal to make the score 35-3 at halftime.

Harrison Butker began the second-half scoring with a 54-yard field goal to make it 38-3. The Raiders would respond when Derek Carr found Hunter Renfrow for a four-yard touchdown pass. Carlson would miss the extra point, however, and the score would be 38-9 at the end of the third quarter.

Butker continued his recent hot streak with another field goal to kick off the fourth-quarter scoring to make the score 41-9. Even the substitutes on offense found their groove. With Chad Henne at quarterback, he handed the ball off to Derrick Gore, who took it 51 yards to the house. This touchdown made the score 48-9, which would be the final score.

A couple of congratulations are in order after today’s game. Tyreek Hill surpassed 1,000 yards for the fourth time in his career, and Josh Gordon caught his first touchdown pass since 2019. It was an all-around superb day for the Kansas City offense. However, the defense continues to shine, as they limited Derek Carr and company to only one touchdown. This unit is riding an unbelievable hot streak and looks to continue their recent dominance in a showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday night.
