Trey Lance – Quarterback – North Dakota State
Pros: In his first season as a starter, Lance had 42 total touchdowns and no interceptions. Lance’s poise in the pocket is beyond his age, and he’s an extremely accurate passer with a huge arm and a great athlete.
Utilized as a true dual-threat by rushing for 1,100 yards in the 2019 season, Lance has also been revered by coaches for his poise and maturity. His most underrated quality is his ability to sell a play action. Lance seems to check off nearly every box, and he’s a guy I expect to be a first round pick next year.
Cons: Lance plays in the Division I sub-division, and plays for the best team at that level. He often plays against inferior competition and most of his throws are easy pitch-and-catch with a clean pocket. His Illinois State film wasn’t overly impressive, but even then his athletic gifts, and a couple of great throws led them to a playoff victory. As a potential franchise quarterback, I wish he would take less unnecessary hits, but there’s very little to dislike.
Pro Comp: Deshaun Watson
