Satoshi Kodaira, a 6-time winner on the Japanese Tour, including 2 Japanese majors, defeated 2017 Players Champion Si Woo Kim on the 3rd playoff hole at Harbour Town Golf Links to win the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, South Carolina. After parring the first 2 holes of the playoff, Kodaira stuck an 8-iron to 25ft, and proceeded to drill the tournament winning birdie putt.
Kodaira led the field in proximity to the hole from approach shots, and was 4th in driving accuracy at 75% (Brian Gay was an astounding 89.29% for the tournament). His peaks-and-valleys week started off with a 73 on Thursday, before a sizzling 8-under 63 on Friday. He then went 70-66 on the weekend to finish tied for the lead at -12 before duking it out with Kim in the playoff. Kodaira will earn his PGA Tour card and go home with $1,206,000 in prize money.
Luke List and Bryson DeChambeau tied for 3rd after finishing at -11 through 72 holes. DeChambeau was 1st in putting average for the tournament (1.522) and had the 5th longest drive at 347 yards. Despite a -5 (66) performance on Sunday, it was his disappointing 75 on Saturday that prevented him from winning the plaid jacket. List was 4th in driving distance for the week at 297.7 yards, including the 4th longest drive at 348 yards. Webb Simpson and Billy Horschel finished T5 at -10.  Arguably the biggest collapse in the T7 group at -9 was Ian Poulter, who posted a Sunday score of 75 including a dreadful 40 on the back-9. Other notable finishes were Kevin Kisner (T7), Dustin Johnson (T16), Matt Kuchar (T23) and Charley Hoffman (T23). 2017 champ Wesley Brian tied for 42nd place after a 69-71-71-70 week.
The PGA Tour will head to TPC San Antonio at the AT&T Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open from April 19th-22nd. Top-30 players in the field this week, according to the Official World Golf Rankings, will be Sergio Garcia (10), Jason Day (14), Matt Kuchar (21), Pat Perez (22), Charley Hoffman (26), Xander Schauffele (27) and Francesco Molinari (29).
