The Las Vegas Raiders upset the reigning Super Bowl Champions Kansas City Chiefs. I’m absolutely shocked with how they played. The offense put up 40 points against the Chiefs with QB Derek Carr throwing for 347 yards, 22-31, three touchdowns, and one interception. Just an amazing game all around and the deep ball that everyone has been wanting to see showed up today. Definitely something we’ll see more of.
Henry Ruggs returned to the field today racking up his first NFL touchdown on a 72 yard pass from Carr. Ruggs finished the day with two receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown. Ruggs also seemed to “Moss” two Kansas City defenders early in the first quarter. The Raiders seemed to find out how to use Ruggs and Derek Carr seemed to finally get that connection down as well. Darren Waller finished the day off with five receptions, 49 yards and a score. The rushing attack against the Chiefs run defense was insane with Josh Jacobs having 23 carries, 77 yards, and two rushing touchdowns.
The Defense stepped up in a huge way today which proved to be a major factor in the win. The QB pressure was almost nonexistent in the first quarter of the year but was a force to be reckoned with; 30 QB hurries along with three total sacks. One of those being the long awaited sack from Maxx Crosby, one he’s been searching for. Nevin Lawson, Chris Smith, Kendal Vickers, and Clelin Ferrell were the stars of the defensive line and had great success in stopping the run.
Now as pass defense goes, it wasn’t perfect, however, it stood out today with how well they did against Patrick Mahomes so I’ll cut them a break today. Jeff Heath, who was filling in for Erik Harris, got his first interception of the year, picking off Mahomes on 4th and 7 and bringing it to the 2 yard line. That set up a Josh Jacobs touchdown run, putting the Raiders out in front 40-24 at the time.
Overall, a huge statement win for the Las Vegas Raiders. They put together a win that shocked the world and snapped a 13 game winning streak for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Raiders also snapped a losing streak today and a long one at that having not won in Arrowhead since 2002. 2016 Derek Carr is back and is looking for vengeance. As I’ve said all year, watch out for the Las Vegas Raiders.
