The Washington Redskins have finally found a trade for 7-time Pro Bowler Trent Williams. The 10-year veteran sat out the 2019 season due to a distrust with the franchise after the medical staff misdiagnosed a cancer growth in Williams’ head back in 2013.
Trent Williams had no intention of playing another down in Washington, so finding a trade for the LT was a necessity. The 49ers were able to scoop up Williams in exchange for a 2020 5th round pick and a 2021 third round pick.
This may seem like bad value for a Pro Bowl caliber LT, but the Redskins held very little leverage in this situation especially after reports came out that Williams nixed a trade that would have sent him to Minnesota.
Williams will be 32 at the start of the 2020 season, and he has one year left on his current deal for $12.5 million. It is expected for the 49ers and Williams to restructure the final year of his contract.
It is also being reported that 13-year veteran Joe Staley will announce his retirement meaning San Francisco was in need of a starting LT, and Trent Williams will be able to step in and fill that void on day one.
