BREAKING NEWS: Houston Texans Sign LT Laremy Tunsil to a Massive Extension

The latest news coming out of the NFL has nothing to do with the NFL Draft that finishes up tonight and tomorrow afternoon. Ian Rapoport and Steve Wyche are reporting that the Houston Texans have signed LT Laremy Tunsil to a 3 year/$66 million extension. $50 million of that salary is guaranteed, and $40 million is due at signing.

The Texans acquired Laremy Tunsil, along with WR Kenny Stills and a 4th round pick, from the Miami Dolphins ahead of the 2019 season for a 2020 first round pick, a 2021 first and second round pick, DB Johnson Bademosi, and OT Julian Davenport.

That 2020 first rounder turned out to be the 26th overall pick in the draft, and last night, the Dolphins traded that pick to the Green Bay Packers acquiring the 30th overall pick, which they used on DB Noah Igbinoghene, and a fourth round pick.

Extending Tunsil was a move that the Texans had to do considering the picks they gave up to acquire the left tackle. Houston would have been better off extending him once the trade was made, as they were forced to give the LT more money now with just a year remaining on his deal.

This extension means that Tunsil will be protecting Deshaun Watson’s blindside for the next four years. Tunsil is a young and very talented LT who is now the highest paid offensive lineman in the league.
