Jaden McDaniels Draft Profile

Jaden McDaniels – F – Washington

  • Terrific shot creator; can create his own offense and get to any spot on the floor
  • Great ball-handling ability for a guy his size
  • Immense shooting and scoring potential despite a disappointing freshman year at Washington
  • Solid rebounder
  • Great physical traits; 6’10 with a reported 7’0 wingspan and terrific athleticism
  • Did have some lapses but overall he played really hard on the defensive end of the floor
  • Has great potential to be a versatile man-to-man defender; contained guards really well in college and has the size and length to guard forwards
  • Good potential as a weak-side shot blocker

  • Shot selection and efficiency were two of his biggest issues throughout the year
  • Tends to get tunnel vision and makes poor decisions
  • Really skinny; needs to put on weight so he can guard 3’s and 4’s consistently
  • Doesn’t have a tremendous motor; mental lapses became a common occurrence
  • Seemed great in interviews but maturity can be questioned due to his high amount of technical fouls; I’m giving him the benefit of a doubt, however, considering how frustrating this year was for him

Prospect Overview

Jaden McDaniels was an extremely hyped up prospect out of high school and had what can only be viewed as a disappointing season. However, his potential and talent is why I’m still tremendously high on him. His ability to create his own shot at all three levels effectively at 6’10 is just incredible. Wings who can create their own shot are gold in today’s NBA, and that’s exactly what McDaniels can do. He’s not a slouch on defense either. His athleticism, length, versatility, and commitment on that end should make him a great defender in the league. I’m willing to overlook certain motor and maturity issues because of the immense talent this guy possesses. A lot of his development will come down to if a team is patient with him but I personally think he’s one of, if not, the most underrated player in this class and could be a gamechanger for the team that rolls the dice on him.
