UFC 256 Predictions

This is going to be one of the craziest cards of the year. We are ending the year off with a pay per view bang in UFC 256, and don’t look now but there are more great fights to come at the start of the new year. I will be going over a few of my predictions and giving you guys a nice parlay if you want to win some extra cash too.

For starters, we have a legend in Junior Dos Santos going up against a fast rising up and comer in Ciryl Gane. I believe that JDS is way past his prime, and he is turning into somewhat of a gatekeeper for heavyweights to get into the top 10. He has lost his last three fights and been knocked out in the process of each of them, and for this reason I’m going to pick against him. Gane will have the edge in this fight and if I had to say how, it would be via knockout.

The next fight is my personal favorite off of the card, and that is between Kevin Holland and Jacare Souza. This fight was mixed and matched all month after positive COVID-19 tests for both of these guys had led them to pulling out of past fights and to each other. With all of the confusion, it can be hard for guys to focus in on just one opponent and lock in on a strategy.

For this reason, I am going with Kevin Holland being the younger fighter. He is a showman who talks the talk and has been backing it up all year. He is on a four fight win streak and has been one of the stars in the UFC during the pandemic. Jacare is also one of my favorite fighters, and I usually would not pick against him, but Kevin seems more ready than ever to become the top dog in the middleweight division. I have this fight going to the cards and Kevin winning by unanimous decision.

After that, we have the lighter guys going at it with Rafael Fiziev up against Renato Moicano. This is one I will not be adding to my parlay, but for predictions sake, I will be going with Moicano. I think that he has been the better of the two fighters as of late especially with his submission win within the first minute when we last saw him. Rafael is not a guy I would pick to be finished; however, I don’t see him finishing Moicano at all, so for this I have Moicano by split decision.

The next fight is the one that everyone is waiting for, the return of Tony Ferguson who is going up against Charles Oliveira. This is the hardest fight of the night for me to call. Tony’s resume speaks for itself and he needs no further explanation as to why I would be picking him… but am I picking him? Charles has a style that can certainly frustrate Tony especially if they go to the ground. If this is a stand up fight, then I am inclined to pick Tony off of what he has shown throughout his career, except against Justin Gaethje. This fight may give Tony some extra motivation to get his name back into the title contention, and I believe he will do so if he keeps the fight standing. If this goes to the ground, Charles will not allow Tony to get up and it will get ugly very quick. For that reason, I am going with the upset and picking Oliveira by submission.

Last but certainly not least, is the flyweight title fight. Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno to be called the king of 125 lbs. Very simply put, we have yet to see any holes in Deiveson’s game thus far and for that reason alone I am picking him to knock out Brandon. The biggest test for him will be if he can make the weight, which if he does will be a signal of things to come. If he misses weight, he may be even more dangerous of a guy to pick against in fairness.
