UFC 251 Predictions

The future of the UFC is in the hands of some great competitors. I would like to specifically talk about the upcoming UFC 251 card and give my predictions on the biggest fights on the show. This card features three title fights, Welterweight, Featherweight, and Bantamweight. This is one of the most stacked cards ever, and we are getting to see it on the debut of Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.

For the Bantamweight title, it is between Jose Aldo and Petr Yan. Petr has defeated every opponent he has faced inside of the Octagon, and I do not think he will start losing on July 15th.

Jose Aldo, who is actually on a two fight losing streak, does not deserve a title shot by any means. He is only receiving this fight because Dana White thinks he beat Marlon Moraes, despite what the judges ruled. This spot on the card should have gone to Marlon, if he was healthy in my opinion. I think Yan will outstrike Jose and end it by TKO in the 3rd round.

For the co-main event, we got the Featherweight strap on the line between Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanosvki. Alex, who has not lost in the Octagon either, will be rematching Max in a career defining fight for him.

Beating an all time great once is an uphill challenge in and of itself, but to do it back to back without any fights in between? Near impossible. I have Max keeping this on the feet and using his range to secure a unanimous decision and regaining the belt.

For the main event and Welterweight belt, we have Gilbert Burns against Kamaru Usman. I think this will be the most exciting fight out of the three, and this will spark fireworks throughout Abu Dhabi. Usman has a wrestling advantage, but Burns is nobody you want to take down.

He is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, who has recently discovered the power in his hands. Burns has been the more active out of the two fighters too, as he has more fights in the past year than Usman has had the past two years.

I do, however, believe Usman is the more disciplined of the fighters, and that will help him edge out the victory. This fight will end when one mistake is made by Burns, and I think Kamaru capitalizes and retains the strap. Usman by knockout in the 4th round.

If all of these predictions are right, I will be on my way to the nearest corner store to play the lottery. If we disagree on a couple of them, then please feel free to let me know what you think.

Nonetheless, I think this is the best card of 2020 thus far and it will live up to all of the hype. I didn’t dive into the Rose and Andrade rematch because I think Thug Rose will walk through her in the first round. But again, feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss any of my picks. In the meantime, let’s sit back and enjoy the show!
