If you don’t know who Mike Tyson is, please stop reading this and go watch some highlights. If you do know who Mike Tyson is, still go watch some of his highlights. Arguably the most dominant boxer of the 90s is making his return to professional boxing.
Now some might ask, who is crazy enough to get in the ring in their 50s after a 14 year layoff? My answer to that would be, who is crazy enough to get into the ring with Iron Mike Tyson?
As of now, there is nothing confirming Tyson is returning except for his Instagram video he posted saying he’s back. But we have seen him training a lot more recently, so this rumor is definitely worth the traction it’s gaining.
Even though he is older than ever, the fans still want to see him land that legendary left hand to put an opponent down. Millions of fans viewed the video and there are numerous comments under the post begging for him to fight, but we are very quick to forget the last time he was in the ring.
The last time we’ve seen Iron Mike in the ring, he quit on the same fans who want to see him return. He was fighting against a gentleman by the name of Kevin McBride, and the fight was stopped short when Tyson did not come out of his corner after round 6.
Tyson had already cemented his legacy as one of the greatest ever, so this didn’t impact his legacy much, but this has to be looked at if we are looking at his return. Mike said he only took that fight for money, and he did not expect to win. Also, he wasn’t on the hottest of streaks before that as he lost 2 out of the last 3 fights before that.
With that being said, can we expect a legitimate showing from the boxing icon? Is this another one of his publicity stunts he is pulling again for money? Who will his opponent be? What promotion will the fights be under? These are questions we do not have the answer to right now, but we will be waiting patiently for them to be revealed.
